FEU goes FIRST: Partnerships beyond Placement

F1’s theme for Academic Year 2017-2018 was “An Innovation-ready graduate: A Catalyst for Economic Competence”. FEU was delighted to have Ramon Segismundo, 2017 National President of People Management Association of the Philippines (PMAP) and Chief of Human Resources and Corporate Services of Meralco as guest speaker. Having been an expert in corporate services and human relations, Segismundo emphasized on the “future of work”, discussing building a culture of innovation in the workplace and environmental trends.

The University was represented by FEU Officials and Academic Heads as well as student leaders from various organizations. The event was successfully implemented in collaboration with the FEU Chapter of Junior People Management Association of the Philippines (JPMAP), BarTAMS, TAMChefs and FEU-Pacific Asia Travel Association of the Philippines (FEU PATA PH). The student and graduate volunteers of these organizations took part in the preparation and execution of F1 which was held at the University Conference Center.

Business leaders from various industries including banking and finance, business process outsourcing, manufacturing, information technology and communication, travel and tourism, and allied health services amongst others were present. Coming together of leaders from 45 corporations and professional organizations like People Management Association of the Philippines (PMAP) and IT and Business Process Association Philippines (IBPAP) is indicative of FEU’s gearing towards improved levels of engagement that leads to collaboration such as but not limited to placement opportunities, industry mentorship for students, consultancy, research, on-the-job training and curriculum development. “We always think of outcomes and we feel that by teaching Digital Learning, Effective Communication, and Critical Thinking (DLECTT), we will be able to produce graduates that will suit the industry requirements”, a statement from Aurelio Montinola III in his welcome message for the participants.

The partial result of the ‘Industry Insight Survey’ conducted by the FEU-Placement Office was presented highlighting the skills and attributes of FEU graduates currently in the workplace. The survey was done to identify the competencies of graduates of FEU and their attitude towards work.  Results say that the top considerations of recruiters in hiring an applicant were as follows, according to ranking: attitude, skills, and credentials. Moreover, the data showed that the top 3 engagements partners are keen on collaborating with the university are job posting, career fair, and exclusive onsite recruitment for both employment and internship. The FEU Placement is running the said survey until December 2017.

The second part of the event was the ceremonial MOA signing with the newly added partners of the FEU Placement and internship affiliates of the Institute of Tourism and Hotel Management (ITHM).

F1 was co-sponsored by Ark Travel Express, Bayview Hotel, Mt. Carmel Print House and Purpledish Group.
